We spent last week on Caswell Beach absorbing the salt air and calm surf. Thomas built a house for the clam he found and saw a tiny baby shark (it was only 8 inches long or so but still cool to see). He’s turning in to such a water rat. Sadie Ellen mostly enjoyed the sand or, if in our arms, the “deep end” of the ocean (as she called it).  She loved being out past where the waves break.  Her first time in the deeper part of the ocean, she stopped and listened for a minute. . . “there’s music in the ocean,” she said.   I thought of mermaids.

Jack and I took a little canoe trip down the canal leading to the intercoastal waterway - lots of beautiful marsh grass and elegant water birds.  I’ve always loved the sound side.

The first two photographs I’m posting are of the sound side.  One at sunset and one in the early morning.  For those wondering, the colors in the sunset photograph are straight out of the camera;  no photoshopping.   I used my fisheye lens and took 2 exposures - one for the sky and water and one for the grass and then blended them.    It was a spectacular sunset.    The second photograph is of a great white egret - probably my favorite water bird.   Or a “white flamingo”, as Sadie Ellen called it.

And just a few of my little loves. . .

This last one was taken inside our beach house as Sadie Ellen was  taking comfort in her belly button.  Some kids suck their thumb, some twirl hair. . . Sadie Ellen loves her belly button.

I got to meet the coolest kiddo this week.  We ran around the arboretum climbing trees, playing in the little natural pool, and getting creative with the fern frond we found at the very beginning of the shoot. . . he had it as a squirrel’s tail, an elephant’s trunk, a toothbrush, and, best of all,  Luke Skywalker’s light saber.   That fern was with us through the entire shoot.   But playing in the pool was by far his favorite part of the fun - I think he could have played by that pool all afternoon.

The performance in our playroom this weekend lol.    My youngest is potty training right now, which means she is spending lots of time in her birthday suit.  So when I saw her scootch her tutu on and start dancing. . . with those cute little tangerines peeking through. . . I knew I had to grab my camera.

Tomorrow is the last day to be entered into the drawing for a free session, so if you haven’t already done so, subscribe to the blog!  I will be emailing the winner on Wednesday.
