We spent a few days down in Folly Beach, outside of Charleston.  Had a fantastic time with our dear friends and explored just a tiny tiny bit of the area.   It was just a few weeks ago, but it already feels long-gone.  So looking at these photographs is a treat - a reminder of those summer days.

Peace~ Kathleen

The next two were taken from our friends’ back porch.  I loved watching how much the landscape changed throughout each day as the tide came in and out of the marsh.

Debra: Wow! I love the evening skyscape over the marsh.

I am already booking fall sessions, so if you’re one of the dozen+ people who have told me you plan to book a session this fall, I recommend calling me soon to reserve your session date.  The calendar is going to fill up in a blink.   A few notes about the fall schedule:

On another note, I’ve been sad to see summer winding down. . . the freedom and the possibilities, the fun projects both for myself and for the kids, the lazy and carefree days. . . But as I was working on this photograph of these sweet little country pumpkins, I began to get excited about the fall.  Fall is hands-down my favorite season.   So rich in so many ways.  And so, I’m starting to be okay with summer waving goodbye.  Amazing that a single photograph can evoke such nostalgia. Hope everyone has a smooth start to the new school year!

I love the story these images tell. . . the story of a magical play-date Sadie Ellen had with one of her preschool buddies at the arboretum.   We had a surprise tea party with dress-up clothes for afterwards, and it was just one of those absolutely perfect afternoons.   After sipping lots of lemonade, they slipped on all different kinds of dress-up concoctions, and they ran, they flew, they danced, they fell.   And they laughed and laughed and laughed.  The magic of childhood was everywhere, and I think we will all remember that day forever.

We served pink lemonade, so pretty much every single photo at the tea party goes something like this. . . (bottom’s up lol):

And then we got out the dress up clothes:

And then the real characters came out. . .

These are my personal favorites:

And then after exploring the arboretum, they ended with a game of hide and seek.

Sigh.  What a special day.  When were walking back to the car, I asked Sadie Ellen what her favorite part of the afternoon was.  I actually half-expected her answer to be:  ”the lemonade”  lol.   But instead, she twirled around, looked up to the sky, and answered:  ”Twirling around with my friend!!”   I could feel her soaring and my heart soared with her.   What a gift.

Namaste friends ~  Kathleen

Debra: The total enjoyment of the 2 girls overwhelms me! The facial expressions you caught, omg!

Shelley: Magical indeed! These are beautiful.

That’s what this image makes me feel.   And we all need an extra sip of that these days. . .    Namaste ~ Kathleen

Happy Summer!  xoxo~Kathleen

Such a beautiful family.  This weekend I had the pleasure of photographing this family of five.   And I tell ya, it was H-O-T.    We got started around 8:30.   By 9:00, it was already very muggy and so hot.  Nonetheless, we pushed through and voila! Every session is unique and has its own rhythm.  Sometimes it doesn’t seem like it’s going to work out. . . but it always does!!!

So much to catch up on the next time we meet guys - including quite a few stories, both those re-told (like those of the famous Eric Carle) and those newly created by those fabulous storytellers of yours!!

In the meantime, here are some images from our session together.

Peace~ Kathleen

Last weekend Jack and I went on a canoeing trip in the mountains of eastern Tennessee.   Being on the river is one of our favorite places to be but rare since having children.  The drive to this river was particularly AMAZING.   Truly amazing.   Very rural mountains with lots of rolling farmland.  As I was driving through it, I felt my soul sing and I just had to shout out THANK YOU.   Have you ever felt that before?  Such bliss in being alive in this very moment in this very place?  Gratitude for being able to witness. . . this?

I didn’t have a lot of time to stop for photographs, but I did take a few minutes to snap just a few photographs.  The textures were absolutely incredible.

Peace ~ Kathleen
