Sweet butterflies dangling overhead, clean sunlight streaming in, her newness a song to the world . . . it was a beautiful morning when I had the great honor of photographing this little darling just a few days after she entered the world. Those first few days of life are full of so much soul and I love to capture that. I also give big brother (or big sister as the case may be) some special time and attention while I’m there, which I love as much as they do. It’s great to have an excuse to be silly.

I first met momma when this little babe was still tucked inside her tummy. You can see her maternity photos here.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home! xo~ Kathleen

I knew I wanted to post a session today but wasn’t sure which one. And then I thought about how warm and sunny these images made me feel and I knew this was the one. These girls were so sweet – the kind of people I hope my own kiddos grow up to be. So kind and thoughtful with each other, smart and funny, not to mention beautiful beautiful beautiful.

2011 has been an amazing year. So many wonderful new people have entered my life that I am grateful to now know. And you’ve trusted your families and your selves with me as I documented your relationships with each other and with life. You’ve kept up with my blog musings and postings. You’ve shared my work with friends close by and far away.

With all my heart, thank you. Each of these connections is special to me ~ each person I photograph, I fall a tiny bit in love with. So, yes, 2011 has been one amazing year and I have you to thank.

May 2012 be a year full of joy, beauty, challenge, growth, light, soul, and love for you.

I’ll sign off with this photograph that embodies all of that for me and for whatever reason really draws me in~

Chapel Hill’s most amazing fall that I can remember. Everywhere aglow. The light has a golden quality to it that I love. And the sky is a richer blue. We were out hiking and found this awesome tree to play on. This tree was so much for us – a place for crazy ninja moves (crouching tiger-esque), circus stunts, quiet moments, snuggles, plant exploration and more. I took so many photographs that I couldn’t possibly choose just a few to share. Perfect for this little video – it’s just 90 seconds, so click play. A smile or two guaranteed on this rainy day.

Rebekah: Pure magic, Kathleen. I love how you used one location - the fallen tree, to anchor each shot's unique moment and emotion. Beautiful. You are gifted.

Debra: The video is just divine, so many expressions of joy captured over the one anchor.

I love this family series – it makes me smile every.single.time.

I couldn’t keep my eyes off this maize. The rich colors and variations were so beautiful. And maize makes me think of November, which makes me feel cozy. So happy November everyone! xo~ Kathleen

What I was most drawn to here was the vine dangling down, alive in the wind. I also like the combination of colors with the red windows and the different greens. The texture of the rocks is also nice.

Would love to hear what you see, what you find interesting, or uninteresting in the image. . .

I love a pregnant belly. All of that awesomeness literally wrapped up inside that belly just waiting for the right time to introduce herself and join in on all the fun. sigh. . . just love it.

I don’t think I’ve ever had quite so much tree climbing at a session. I loved it. We climbed literally dozens of trees. So much of that awesome boy energy.

So many moments in my every day where I wish I had my camera. Interesting lines, shapes, textures, and of course the light. So much to photograph. On this day, I happened to have my camera with me. . .
